Living Library Luxembourg

Challenge Prejudice & Discrimination

Welcome to the second edition of Living Library Luxembourg

The project idea is to organize the "Living Library Luxembourg" activity and promote the concept of the Living Library in most of the communities of Luxembourg.
The Living Library is a tool seeking to challenge prejudice and discrimination. In the Living Library Books are people, and reading consists of a conversation between the "book" and two/three people: "Books" and "Readers". Books are volunteers who have either been subjected to discrimination themselves or represent groups or individuals within society that are at risk of facing/suffering from stereotypes, stigma, prejudice or discrimination.

Every year we invite “books” to present nationalities/ethnic groups living in Luxembourg, asylum seekers and refugees, representatives of social/cultural minorities, etc.
The Living Library addresses the broad subject of prejudice and stereotypes without emphasising one specific case over others.

Last year, in December 2021, the first Living Library in Luxembourg took place in Forum Geesseknäppchen. The event gathered together 16 books and more than 100 readers, The books were presenting stories of a victim of domestic violence, a victim of torture, single mother, black life matters movement activists, refugees from Iraq, Syria, and Former Yugoslavia, stories of discrimination because of being vegan, veiled, sexual orientation, representative of a multi-religious family.

This year we will also be glad to host “books.”
Anyone with a story about prejudice, discrimination, and human rights in the broadest sense, whose story could seriously help or inspire someone else or open people's minds to something new, can become a “book.”

The “books” will be provided with special training, which will help to create a safe environment in the group, and foster learning. Interested people can register online or contact us via email:

The second Living Librairy event will be organised by a consortium of organisations: ErwuesseBildung Asbl, Formation et Sensibilisation de Luxembourg Asbl, Young ACAT, YoungCaritas and Zentrum fir politesch Bildung.
