Jahrhundert“ beschreibt Prof. Georges Hellinghausen kenntnisreich und kondensiert die wechselhafte Geschichte der Luxemburger Ortskirche seit Kaiser Napoleon. Zunächst geht es um die progressive Subjektwerdung, die in der Gründung des Bistums durch Papst Pius IX. 1870 gipfelt, dann u.a. um das Verhältnis zwischen Kirche und Staat, die Entstehung des „katholischen Pfeilers“, die Beziehungen zu Rom, den pastoralen Aufschwung und das soziale Wirken. Besonders widmet sich der Autor der Nachkriegszeit (die letzte Bistumsgeschichte stammt von 1950), die erst für eine kirchliche Hochzeit, dann für Aufbruch (Synode, Konzil) und schließlich für einen spürbaren Bedeutungsverlust des Katholizismus in einer pluralistischen Gesellschaft steht.
