Das Urteil ist niederschmetternd: Die Kirche ist bankrott und nicht einmal für ein ordentliches Insolvenzverfahren geeignet. So urteilt ein Priester, also ein Träger dieser Institution. Die Gründe dafür sind offenkundig: Missbrauchsskandal und Machtmissbrauch in der Kirche. Hinter dieser Negativfolie schimmert allerdings immer noch die Idee des Christlichen durch, die sich um den Menschen sorgt – mit seinen Fragen, Problemen und Schicksalsschlägen. Trost und Hoffnung zu geben wäre die Mission, die im Sinne Jesu zu realisieren wäre. Der Auftrag der Kirche bestünde dann heute im Grunde darin, an der Seite der Menschen zu bleiben und zwar auch dann, wenn es keine Lösungen oder keine schnellen Antworten gibt. Der Autor ermutigt Christinnen und Christen zu einem Neuaufbruch, der mit der Botschaft Jesu die „Verlorenen“ wieder aufrichtet – notfalls auch ohne die institutionelle Kirche.
